Daily Prompt: Messy – the creepy critter holiday camp.

on

My garden is considered quite messy.

A side view of my garden.

I love it this way though. We’ve just kind of allowed to develop year by year. It’s definitely not like all the other gardens round here; we very rarely cut our grass and we’ve tonnes of flowers.

We’ve been in this house for 10 years now and every year we’re amazed at all of the different types of mini beasts we get coming to stay with us during the summer season.

Lady bird lava.

Each year we get loads of lady bird lava and in turn loads of lady birds. Last year we had 4 different types living in our Apple tree. In fact it was a veritable lady bird nursery we had so many. Until we’d moved here I’d never seen one before and they fascinate me.

Solomon seal sawfly caterpillars

The Solomon seal plant we have that comes up every year is always visited by the tiny, delicate, lacy winged sawflies that lay there eggs there. They only lay them on this one plant and they come back every year to eat their way through the leaves. They look really cool though.

Buff tailed honey bee

We get several hives of bees visit too. This is probably the reason our Apple tree produces a hybrid Apple that’s crossed between a golden delicious and a brambles, they’re sweet but they’re huge!

We also have lots of lovely flowers and two flourishing vegetable beds. The bees especially like the fox gloves.

They’re just a few of the visitors we get every year and we love looking out for them. I’m happy that our messy garden attracts so many creepy critters, it makes it really interesting. It feels more homely and is much more appealing than the masses of concrete in all the other gardens round here.
